The Link Between Diet and a Healthy Coat

The coat is one of the first places poor nutrition shows. A diet that is low in quality protein or essential fatty acids produces dull, brittle fur and dry, flaky skin, no matter how often you brush.

What a coat-friendly diet looks like

Cats are obligate carnivores, so named animal protein should lead the ingredient list. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support skin and shine, and steady hydration keeps skin supple. Wet food, or a water fountain for dry-food cats, helps more than most owners expect.

When diet is not the whole story

Sudden coat changes, bald patches or obsessive over-grooming can signal stress, pain or a medical issue. If the change is sudden, a vet check comes first. For everything else, a tailored nutrition plan can transform coat condition within weeks.
